I think it has been three weekends in a row that my wife and I have had the discussion about getting our paperwork together to drop off at our tax prep person and all the discussions have ended with my wife saying, "You should do that tonight." Then it devolves into pizza, beer and a kung fu movie and I wake up and don't remember what happened. I'm surprised she hasn't left me yet. Anyway, we all have a month to go. Don't fritter it away (like I inevitably will).

What to Bring to Your Accountant
OK, first things first. What do you need to cobble together in order to get this ball rolling? One of the better (for me) things is that I've been using the same tax person for several years now so she knows roughly what I'm supposed to bring to her. So when I (inevitably) forget something, she can send me an email. Sometimes she CCs my wife.

Doing It Yourself
Last time I tried to prepare taxes myself there was a tornado and then, a few years later, some sort of flood. Related? I don't know, but why take a chance? Anyway, if you don't cause natural disasters based on lack of ability to carry the 1, start with which form to file.

Popular Tax Breaks
If we had untold riches, I'm sure we'd be willing to give Uncle Sam whatever he wanted. But since we all have bills to pay it's a good idea to make sure you are taking every deduction you are allowed. Upshot? More money for Ring Dings.

What to Do With a Tax Refund
For some reason, all my schemes involve a tremendous amount of money. I'm planning to get a tax refund this year and if it's big enough, I plan to wallpaper my entire apartment in iPads.
