We're all devastated by the recent shooting in Arizona. It's especially heartbreaking to think about the young girl that was senselessly murdered.

With so much media focus on these tragic events, your students likely know that something sad and serious happened. They might even bring it up to you in front of the whole class. That's why it's important to know how to discuss tragedy with your students. It can be a touchy and tough situation, so take a moment to prepare and you'll be able to provide the right type of support to your students at this challenging time for our nation.

How Do You Handle Tattling in Your Classroom?
Tattling is a sure-fire way to try a teacher's patience. But beyond the annoyance factor, it wastes valuable instruction time in the classroom.

I doubt there's a way to eliminate tattling completely, but we all need strategies to at least minimize our students' compulsion to tattle. I teach my students a quick 3-point way to evaluate whether they need to tell me something or not. But I'm always looking for new tactics because sometimes I need a few different anti-tattling tools to get me through the school year.
