| Earth Day is this Sunday, April 22. At a glance, it might sound all liberal and crunchy, but it's the one celebration where we can say "We're all in this equally." We've got one planet to live on and there are some places we've made quite a mess. Let's figure out how to clean it up so we can leave a nice place for those who come after us. | | But What Can I Do? I often feel helpless when it comes to these kinds of movements. Marc has written up some great ideas here. I'll point out two that any of us (hey, I'm including myself here) can do: 1. Plant something. 2. Recycle just one thing. I have some old batteries that I need to take care of. And I'm going to do that this Sunday. How about you? | Do You Know These People? It's funny to think how much time is spent memorizing stats and faces of sports celebrities, musicians, and actors. Yet how many among us can name a single person on this list? | Is Eating Locally Grown Foods Worth It? Staying green doesn't always mean doing things after the fact (recycling, etc). It also means what you are doing now. One of the greatest movements lately is the push to eat locally grown food. Whether that means going to your local farmers market, joining a CSA, or working at a food cooperative, each step puts less pressure on the planet. | Can You Get By With The Old? After I renovated, I regretted not asking my contractor to figure out what he could salvage for others to take. The old cabinets weren't anything to write home about, but they weren't bad at all, so why did I let them get tossed? Same with the moldings.
