About Today: What to Wear When It's Hot

From Jen Hubley, your About Today Editor
After what feels like two months of rain, it's finally summer. But don't worry, because I can find something to complain about in all types of weather. Today? It's that I don't have anything to wear.

Find Your Dream Dress
Seriously, I feel like I used to have summer clothes. But judging by my closet, I entirely imagined that, because there is nothing, but nothing, for me to wear in there now that it's 80 degrees out.

The Best Shorts for Your Body Type
When I was younger, I never wore shorts. Of course, there was absolutely no reason for it, but I suffered all summer long in pants because I thought my legs were hideous. Now that I'm older, I know two things: 1) my legs were not hideous and 2) there is no reason to be uncomfortable because you think people are looking at you.

Shoes for Spring and Summer
The beginning of summer is also the beginning of sandal season, i.e., the best season of all.

20 Summer Product Must-Haves
One of my least favorite seasonal challenges: Trying to keep my makeup on my face and off my shirt.

From Beth Lewis, your Guide to Elementary Education
Has the accountability train gone off the rails? Now comes news that some school districts are adding even more tests to the schedule. But these tests are specifically to assess and evaluate teacher performance. What's your take on this new trend? ~Beth

Even More Tests for Teachers
When I was an elementary school student, we were tested but not over-tested. I remember taking standardized tests every year or two. I felt the need to try my best for my own personal achievement and sense of integrity. I never considered that my results would reflect on my teachers at all.

It seems that nowadays the pendulum is swinging to a very strange extreme. Now, not only are students tested to the hilt, but even more tests are being added in order to assign a grade to the teachers! The additional tests aren't meant to assess student learning, but rather to evaluate the teachers who give them.

I usually take a moderate stance in education debates, but it's starting to feel like a bit like a teacher-focused witch hunt.

What do you think?... Read more

I recommend these fun and easy last day of school activities to help you and your students make the most of your final hours together.
