Bill Gates on Teacher Development
While some teachers don't value technology mogul Bill Gates' opinions on Education-related issues, I contend that all thoughtful, viable ideas should be encouraged and considered. With our schools in such dire straits, we should be constantly on the lookout for solutions that could lead to real progress, even if the ideas come from unexpected sources.

So, if you're interested, check out the Op-Ed piece Mr. Gates wrote in The Washington Post this week about teacher development and how it could revolutionize our nation's education system. He doesn't shy away from often-controversial topics, such as merit pay, class size, and salary bumps for advanced degrees.

How Do You Get Along With Your Principal?
Have you ever gone through conflicts with your administrator? If you teach long enough, you're at risk of finding yourself in a tense or outright combative relationship with your superiors in the front office. It definitely adds an extra layer of stress to an already demanding job.

That's why I strongly advise being proactive and positive when dealing with your principal, in order to minimize problems before they arise and explode. After all, a productive and cooperative relationship between teachers and the administration benefits the students, their parents, and the whole community.
