From Jerry Webster, your Guide to Special Education
Congress passed emergency funding for states to support Medicare and education over the complaints of Republicans. Now, will it help recent graduates in special education? I also add one more technique from Teach Like a Champion, and a horror story from a parent who is also a friend. Time to tuck in to preparations for a new school year, as well!

Teach Like a Champion -- Technique 17
This technique is so long I've split it in half. Technique 17 seeks to increase the ratio of student to teacher participation, so students are doing most of the intellectual work and increasing their learning.

A Horror Story
I share another parent's horror story about denial of services for kids with ADD. After years of blaming the kid, is it any surprise that he or she is diagnosed with Oppositional Defiance Disorder? Is ODD real or is it a catch all for a system that would rather blame the kid than resolve the problem?

Show Us the Money
Congress passed an emergency funding bill to provide funding for states to cover medicare and save teaching positions. So, will districts be hiring? Will states accept the money and keep the positions? Will it effect new teachers looking for employment?

Back to School Resources
I provide a range of resources to start your year off, with seating charts, worksheets, and positive behavior supports. Hopefully you will find tools to help your year be really successful.
