From Allen Grove, your Guide to College Admissions: U.S.
I frequently hear of students who take the SAT or ACT half a dozen times, and some students start testing in ninth grade or earlier. The SAT's new Score Choice policy is making this type of excessive testing even more common.

Today's newsletter provides some common sense advice about when to take the SAT or ACT.

When Should You Take the SAT?
The SAT is offered seven times a year (check out the 2010 - 2011 SAT exam dates). My general recommendation is for students to take the exam once in the second half of junior year, and if necessary, again in the beginning of senior year. Learn more.

When Should You Take the ACT?
Check out the ACT exam dates for 2010 - 2011, and also learn when you should take the ACT.

Should you take the SAT or ACT?
The SAT and ACT are very different types of exams, but nearly all colleges will accept scores for either test. Learn about the differences between the SAT and ACT, and decide which exam might be best for you.
