In my day, we counted push-ups and laps around the track in order to integrate physical fitness into our education. These were the numbers reported to our parents. I wonder what my BMI would have been back in elementary school? ~Beth

Should BMIs Be Included on Report Cards?
Some schools are starting to include a student's BMI (Body Mass Index) on the report card, along with healthy eating and exercise tips. It turns out that the vast majority of parents believe that their children are at healthy weights, while the reality is that many are overweight or even obese. The BMI report card information provides a little reality check and support to families.

I'm not sure schools should get into the business of pediatric health, considering how many other important issues are on our plates. Yet, I can also see the viewpoint that parents need to be informed and supported in order for our communities to get on top of the childhood obesity epidemic.
