From Beverly Hernandez, your Guide to Homeschooling
The Summer Reading Club awards have all been sent out. We had a participant all the way from Israel this year!

Tanaka Farms and Pumpkin Patch
We went on our homeschool field trip to Tanaka Farms again this year. Our day began with a tractor-pulled wagon ride to the petting zoo, time with the animals and hand sanitation time. From there we went through the corn maze, picked some vegetables and picked our pumpkins.

Have you been on a homeschool field trip lately? Share your local field trip experiences and help others as they follow in your footsteps. You can also share a picture or two of your experience. I've started us off with our field trip to the Pumpkin Patch as an example for you. Choose your state from the list and share about your trip.

Pretend Play Kits
Pretending is an important part of childhood. Pretend play builds social, emotional, language and thinking skills. We can encourage pretend play and nurture the imagination by providing resources that spark children's imaginations. These printable kits encourage pretend play and are great anytime there's a lull in the day or you hear the words, "I'm bored."

Understanding Charts and Graphs
Charts and Graphs is a topic that's covered all through school, from Kindergarten through 9th grade. The first time I realized that my children needed to learn this topic was when my daughter took the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills in the third grade.
