From Jerry Webster, your Guide to Special Education
I was asked this week to help a neophyte (actually, a gym teacher) to start out the year at a neighboring middle school in an autism classroom. When I sent links to some of my articles, I realized that one of my strengths as the special education guide is I actually teach for my living. I decided to share with you the decisions I am making about my own classroom in the next two weeks, as we start school. As the year goes on, I will share my course corrections. A master teacher knows when to change course.

What I Do - Routines
I start my back to school blogs on "What I Do," with routines, the backbone of a well run, efficient classroom.

Join Me On Facebook
I have an About Special Education Facebook page to keep you informed of new materials, tips or trends that I report either through my blog or through my articles. If you are already on face book, go to About Special Education and click on like.

Daily Journals for Students with Disabilities
My lower functioning guys won't be able to respond to my writing prompts as part of their "dailies." That won't excuse them. I share the two forms I have created to help them participate in "bell work."

Positive Behavior Support
The best way to have a great year is to put positive behavior support in place. Reinforce the behavior you want, and you'll spend less time dealing with behavior you don't want.
