Behavior Management

From Jerry Webster, your Guide to Special Education
By now, class lists are getting put together and new teachers are starting to think about what they will need to do to be successful in their first classroom assignment. I put together resources on seating, positive behavior support, and offer lots of worksheets and activities for the first day of school.

A Back to School Toolkit
This toolkit offers lots of resources for the important things you need to have in place for a successful year: seating plans, positive behavior support, rules and routines, even consequences. A master teacher has all of these things in place before the first student comes in and sits down.

Positive Behavior Support
Start the year out by planning for positive behavior support. Will your class need a classwide plan? What kind of rules will you need? What routines will support the day to day administration of instruction, student work and successful transitions.

Teach Like a Champion -- Technique 15
Back with Teach Like a Champion, technique 15 fits well with some of my back to school resources. Technique 15 is Circulate. An effective teacher can stand beside every child in the classroom, and a classroom needs to be designed so that can happen easily.

Welcome Back, Special Education Students
More and more states are pushing districts to return students to public school classrooms from private placements. Most of these students are behavioral, and often part of the cost of their placement is paid by county mental health agencies. So, are public schools really ready to handle this challenging students?
