From Jen Hubley, your About Today Editor
When I was a kid, the surest way to annoy my Mom was to say that we were bored. "I am not the cruise director," she would say. "This is not the Love Boat. There are no planned activities on the Lido deck."

9 Summer Activities for Bored Kids
Which was her way of saying that bored people are boring people. Only with pop cultural references which were current at the time. (I'm old. Be quiet, you.)

Easy 10-Minute Crafts for Kids
Still, sometimes you need some pre-planned fun in order to keep kids out of your hair.

About Today: 15 Ways to Save on Air Conditioning

If you can't see this email, click here

About.com

From Jen Hubley, your About Today Editor
At last count, 105 percent of our summer budget went to air conditioning. You math people in the audience will know that this is technically impossible. However, I am telling you that I have seen the bills, and it is so.

15 Ways to Save on Air Conditioning
Why is AC so expensive? Well, it's because our power is now entirely generated by thousand-year-old unicorns running on golden treadmills. (Isn't that more interesting than the usual whining about expensive utilities?)
See More About:  saving energy  lowering your bills

Keep Cool Without Air Conditioning
I will freely admit to overusing air conditioning, which isn't great for my bills or for the planet. These are ways to use less AC, and not feel it.

Window Air Conditioner Maintenance
Did you know that you need to maintain your air conditioner? I didn't until two years ago, when my filter got so clogged with dust that my air conditioner just ... gave up.

10 Frozen Coffee and Tea Treats for Summer
You can always cool yourself off the old-fashioned way: By making lots and lots of cold drinks. I find this works even better if you drink them while sitting in a kiddie pool, although your neighbors will think you're odd.

About Today: Guilt-Free Summer Desserts

If you can't see this email, click here

About.com

From Jen Hubley, your About Today Editor
I'm a big fan of dessert in all seasons, but especially in summer, when there's so much fresh fruit to choose from. You get all the fun of eating dessert, plus a truckload of vitamins. (Yes, that's an actual scientific measurement: one truckload. I believe it's equal to 137 bushels.)

Low-Fat Summer Desserts
This roundup could be called "Several Awesome Ways to Use Strawberries." Also, there are Low-Fat Key Lime Bars -- never a bad thing.

Low-Calorie Ice Cream Treats
I could eat ice cream every day during the summer. Actually I could eat ice cream every day all year round, except that people have less sympathy for your ice cream headache when it's 20 degrees outside.

Gluten-Free Summer Desserts
This Lemon Meringue Pie looks good enough to eat, even if you're not keeping to a gluten-free diet.

Vegetarian Dessert Recipes
There is apparently such a thing as a healthy cookie. Truly, we live in amazing times.
