The NBC Nightly News is focusing on education this week: In a story on a school seeing improvement in test scores, Lester Holt makes the sweeping statement "Less than a third of 4th graders are proficient in reading and math." Where do they get these numbers?

Teach Like a Champion -- Technique 21
Technique 21 is "Take a Stand." Encouraging students to take a stand on problems or the answers of other students can help students think critically and help teachers evaluate their student's understanding.

Las Cruces, Anyone?
One of my therapeutic support staff just got a job (drumroll, please) in New Jersey teaching Social Studies. The jobs are coming to roost late, but they're still out there. You need to check rural districts with a real need, like Las Cruces, New Mexico.
